The Yamaha UX30Bl (often written as UX30BL) is an elite 52-inch (131 cm) professional studio upright piano manufactured by Yamaha between 1988 and 1990 at their flagship factory in Hamamatsu, Japan.
It belongs to the highly celebrated "X Series" (UX Series) and serves as the direct, upgraded successor to the immensely popular UX3. The "Bl" in its name stands for Black, referencing its premium polished ebony mirror finish. Built to conservatory standards with top-tier materials, the UX30Bl is considered by technicians to be one of the absolute peaks of Yamaha's vertical piano engineering

  • Refined Radial X-Brace Frame: The structural centerpiece of the UX30Bl is the massive X-shaped wooden support framework on the back. This design evenly distributes over 20 tons of string tension far better than the standard vertical posts found on a regular U3. The result is legendary tuning stability and an ultra-rigid body that projects acoustic energy with massive power.
  • Curved Bass Bridge & Extended Bass Strings: Yamaha updated the internal scale design of the UX30Bl with an advanced curved bass bridge. This modification accommodates longer bass strings than a standard U3 despite sharing the same 131 cm height frame. It delivers a thunderous, deep lower register that rivals the depth of a mid-sized grand piano.
  • Grand Piano-Style Large Music Desk: Moving away from the basic cabinet profile of standard uprights, the UX30Bl features an elevated, forward-sitting grand piano-style music rack. This large ledge sits at the correct grand piano height, making it easier for advancing students to transition between instrument styles.
  • Tone Escape Vents (Front Panel Slots): Built discreetly into the cabinet paneling behind the music desk are sound escape vents. Instead of trapping all the acoustic resonance inside a sealed wooden box, these vents allow the sound to travel straight from the solid spruce soundboard directly out to the player, offering a highly responsive, immediate listening experience.
  • Premium Mahogany-Core Hammers: The action is fitted with premium, under-felted mahogany-core hammers identical to those used in Yamaha's C-series grand pianos. These hammers provide an incredibly wide dynamic range, adding a warm, round, and orchestral depth to Yamaha's classic crystal-clear top-end brightness.
